Beast Wars - Starscream's Past
1) Watch the episode of Beast Wars called Possession.
2) Watch the part where Starscream tells everyone about his past, about how Unicron destroyed him and his spark survived.
3) Later in the episode, Black Arachnia says that Galvatron killed Starscream.
4) If you watch Transformers, you'll see that Black Arachnia was right, that Galvatron did destroy Starscream, but if you watch another episode, Unicron gives Starscream his body back, so Starscream's spark can't exist because he has his own body!

The episode is Ghost in the Machine. At the end of the episode Starscream's NEW body is blasted into space and he tumbles out of control. He flies past Galvatron and a few other Decepticons. Galvatron orders them to shoot Starscream. Possibly since we never hear from Starscrem again is that he was killed again.

Um, hello. I have no idea how old the above comment is but I have to say SOMETHING. There is a great deal of time between when Starscream is seen killed and returns in a "ghost-form" visible to the naked eye. Galvatron kills Starscream. His Spark wanders and eventually makes it to the Beast Wars. He tells everyone Unicron killed him because your commanding officer killing doesn't make you look good, now does it? Black Arachnia obviously is not fooled. Later his Spark (notice how it only appears as the Spark?) is sent back into space and either retentered the anomoly that sent it to the past or traveled all the way back to Cybertron (time passing at a normal rate which would make his Spark ancient) and he is seen returning to the Great War after learning how to show himself to the naked optic. This is basic stuff.

Hmm... You brought some good points to attention. I thought of a way I could disprove you, but I'm still drawing blanks. All I can think of is that 'Beast Wars' happened it was said numerous times that it all transpired in the past, before Optimus Prime, and the original Transformers bunch woke up from the longest sleep in TV history. But Starscream's spark came to Earth before that all happened. I don't know, but you are pretty observant.

Starscream states that his spark was "drifting helplessly through the depths of space beyond the reach of time itself". That basically clears everything up.
