U-571 - WW1 Depth Charged
When one of the crew asks Harvey Keitel (the Chief) if he's been depth charged before, he answers, "Yeah once, in World War I..."
However, at that time (1942), World War 1 was not known as "World War 1", it was known as either "The Great War" or just "The World War."

Well he knew that they are in WW2, so maybe he just thought it would've been better for the others to understand him if he just made it easy and said WW1.
