In the beginning of the film, we see Indy and his guide cross a chasm by swinging across with his whip. The branch is parallel to the spots where Indy starts and stops his swinging. After they steal the idol, the two run back the same way. Indy of course has to run and jump, but only manages to grab onto the other side of the chasm. The branch appears to be in the same spot from his perspective, but when they show the scene from the bottom of the chasm, the branch appears to be perpendicular to the way it was before.
