1) Read the part in the book where Misty is battling the trainer with a Kingler.
2) The book says that she has a Kingler, Cubone, Rattata, and a Pinsir.
3) Watch the episode Princess vs. Princess.
4) You can obviously see that she sent out a Raticate, not Rattata.

We do not now the exact time of the time and episode, rattata evolves in raticate, so maybe it evolved?
