If you listen closely to the mom at the beginning, she says "No, we're not bringing the dog, we're putting it in a kennel." So, it's not a slipup.

Did You ever think about that maybe they had it put in a dog hotel.(They are like the people that keep your dog when You are out of town, or maybe the neighbors kept it or something. Because if you think about it, in the first place they were not planning on somebody staying home so they had to make arrangements for the dog to stay somewhere!

"some people just have way to much money??" are you serious? I think it's the best thing ever. I'm a totally animal lover/Owner and knowing they have stuff like this available, sure takes the problem of finding someone to watch your pet while you go on vacation away. Too much money, i don't think so at all.
