X-Men - Hold the Phone!
In the helicopter with Kelly, Mystique (looking like his assistant) takes his cell phone and puts it into her "suit" and then shape-changes back into real form. In her "real" form there really isn't enough cover to hide a needle, much less a cell phone? Where'd the cell phone go? She never displays any ability to either absorb objects into her or generate working copies of electronic devices from her body, much less separate them from herself.

you're kidding right mystique is a shape shifter that's like saying what happens to the clothes she's wearing just like she makes wolverines claws and he cuts the off. yeah she screamed but it didn't kill her or anything

Hey Josh, you're missing the point made here...Mystique took a REAL, working phone that wasn't part of her shapeshifting, put it in her shapeshifting-formed pocket and then, when she changed to her natural form...where'd it go? This is an honest-to-goodness slipup, dude.

Exactly my point. Mystique can duplicate Wolverine's adamantium claws, but they are not working metal claws (which is why they break when Wolverine cuts through them). So how can she make a working phone?

who's to say she was really talking on the phone or even better maybe she morphed the phone itself. if she can make clothes appear to be there why can't she make a phone there. it's the same principal. have you ever actually read the comics or watched the shows

OK this isn't a slip-up. She didn't make the phone. She didn't "absorb" the phone. It is inside her-like her whole body is the pocket. The pocket was only part of her body, right? If she can change her shape into anything she wants, I think she could probably leave an open space inside her body to hold the cell phone until she wanted to dispose of it. What better way to carry things?

In the comics and show she can't generate working electronics either. I'm not sure if she has the ability to hide stuff in her body in the comics, but she's shown no such ability in the show...and why would she? Just set the phone down and then turn back into her original form.

Besides, according to the Marvel Universe guides she _can't_ change into anything other then humanoid form (although X-Men: Evolution took some liberties with that). Nor can she radically alter her internal structure. Everything she turns into in the movie is a human shape (even the Statue of Liberty model).

Perhaps Mystique absorbs objects to power her shapeshifting ability. A factor we may never have known until now. I mean, think about it...how would she know the retinal structure of Xavier's eye? Maybe the fact she absorbs objects inserts new information into her body of the object's structure, like a human body's immune system learns new viruses. i.e: The metal in the phone would have contained enough information of the atomic structure for her to recreate an imperfect metallic replica of Wolverine's claws. She may have also touched Xavier earler and absorbed his DNA information. Just because we see her in the comic, cartoon and movie, doesn't mean we know EVERYTHING about her. Shoot, even Stan Lee doesn't know everything about his characters. Most of the information he gathers are ideas from fans.

Mystique probably got the eye pattern from Magneto, who worked with Xavier in the past on Cerebro. And yes, we watch the comic book and the show: that's what in part establishes she can't generate a phone, fake or real, from her body. She can only shapeshift her own body into human-like forms (although as noted, X-Men: Evolution takes some liberties with that). Besides, again, why bother to generate a fake phone? Why bother to create a pocket that large in your body (and Mystique don't look like she has a lot of body-cavity space to spare)?

Perhaps the cell phone was like a hand extension, a bit like the claws, and maybe it wasn't actually working at all - just pretend.

Wasn't it Senator Kelly that was talking on the cell phone and then handed it to Mystique? I'd think he'd notice if the phone wasn't working and wouldn't have kept talking. The whole "body pocket" thing is just stupid. It was a slip up due to the "artistic license" they took with Mystiques power. As for the Wolverine claws bit...seems that it should have at least left a mark when he cuts them off...it certainly did when he stabbed her.

She's a shape-shifter, guys. She's not a "human black hole" or "walking pocket-dimension". It's a goof-up. There's really no need to stretch reality to it's limits trying to come up with some reason to prove that this was intentional.
