Boston Public - Is Boston Public Actually in Boston?

We are given the impression that Boston Public is in Boston. They had a short scene showing a Long Island RR (MTA) commuter train (3rd rail power pick up.) Boston subways use 3rd rail, but MBTA railroad uses diesel or overhead wire.

There is no room to film in Boston and there are no tv studios in sight with the exception of local news stations. We have the T for buses and trains.
