Daly, Carson - Idiot
Sometime in the first half hour of the show, Carson goes to the window and looks at the signs fans are holding up. A couple of girls are holding a sign that says "WE [HEART] GOOD CHARLOTTE." Then Carson says, "We got a couple of fans from Charlotte." Carson, the music genius that he is, obviously doesn't know about the new band Good Charlotte who did the song "Little Things."

Maybe he was being sarcastic.

I don't think this qualifies him as an idiot. I've never heard of this band either, and I doubt that a one-hit wonder that doesn't even make it onto his show is his first priority.

I know this isn't a huge mistake on his part. It's not like he didn't know who the Beatles were. But I just thought he sounded a little stupid. And isn't it his job to know about new bands?

Just for the record, Good Charlotte is a rock band from Washington DC.

There are a lot of good bands that aren't on TRL. So while they might not be top priority for Carson (although I'm sure he likes many bands who aren't on the show) they are still good bands (not that I'm putting down TRL or the pop scene, b/c I'm a fan of both). Anyway, I think it's forgivable that he didn't know Good Charlotte, but they're pretty well-known in the Baltimore/DC area and they've had a few "hits" so they get a lot of airplay around here (I'm not their advocate or whatever, just letting everyone know).

I've heard of them before. One of the guys from the group has been a judge on Say What? Karaoke. Maybe he just didn't see the sign clearly.

First of all, I am surprised that so many of the commentors have not yet heard of Good Charlotte! They had two hit singles (so far), both of which were respectably featured on Total Request Live. They are even big here in Tibet!!! Anyways, I think Carson [Daly] was being sarcastic, as I believe he knows the band (and lets hand it to Carson, he is pretty close to a neo-modern music genius:-). Even if he did make that mistake, I hardly believe that qualifies him as an idiot... And, why should we focus on his (or anyone's) weaknesses when it is much better to do so on one's strengths? Thank you.

Good Charlotte isn't a "new" band, as far as I know. Carson knows who they are, I'm almost positive, because he always gets new music, and he loves punk and rock. So he probably has their CD. I didn't see that episode, but he was probably being sarcastic, as he usually is. He's not stupid, and even if, by the off chance he did read the sign wrong or make a mistake, that doesn't qualify him as an idiot.

You can tell he was being sarcastic. He listens to rock more than any other type of music. I think it was told to be a joke.

How can you not know who GC is? I mean, they've been around here locally for a while, then they released their CD with Epic in September of 2000. Plus, MTV has put them all over that channel, which sucks, but yeah anyways, you should probably have heard of them by now...
