About ten minutes into the film the original Zorro's wife is killed[She gets shot in the back].But if you watch a couple of minutes later when Zorro is in the cage if you watch the background she's sitting on a horse watching whats happening!

Sorry, but I believe the woman you are referring to is high-probability,the Housekeeper/Nurse seen taking care of the baby when Diego returns from that last ill-fated mission. She pops up again later when the grown child returns to California.

Sorry, but that is not Diego's wife on the horse. It is Elena's nanny, and she was on the horse to take care of Elena until she was old enough to take care of herself.
