In the episode where Ricky accidently gives Lucy a black eye, they tell Fred & Ethel it was an accident , they don't believe him. They're sure Ricky did it on purpose. When Fred sees Ricky on the street he wants him to makeup with Lucy by sending flowers, Ricky says no because he would never hit Lucy, he didn't do anything and he's not sending flowers. Fred goes into the florist's and orders flowers for Lucy, he sees gladiolas, and tells the clerk to add them to the roses and he puts them into the box. Yet when Lucy opens the box there are no gladiolas, and when Ethel picks up the box to hit Fred it only has roses.
