While Nate his running, he runs into The Lord, Blair's boyfriend, and they start to converse. Nate is holding the headphones, then they are around his neck while talk to The Lord. Whether the camera was behind Nate or The Lord, the headphones were always around Nate's neck. Then when The Lord leaves, you see more of Nate's body and it shows him holding the headphones, not around his neck.
