In the interval following the battle with Khan, Kirk is comforting the dying Engineering cadet. The cadet whispers "Is the order given?" Kirk answers, "The order is given" and as the boy dies, he grabs Kirk's tunic, leaving a bloody stain.

In a later scene the stain has moved to his shoulder.

In a still later scene, the stain is in its original spot.
