Right after Haldir dies, Aragorn rushes out to him, and then he takes the ladder next to him and falls with the ladder to the ground. If you look at the wall while the ladder is falling, you will clearly see that the ladder was placed on the inner side of the wall. You can figure this out by the stairs attached to the wall.
