In the scene where WALL-E is thrown into the wall of his shelter, right after he replaces in eye, EVE picks up a Zippo lighter from the shelf. She opens and flicks the lighter, and produces a flame. After 700 years of the lighter never being refil, the fluid would have dried out, thus no flame would occur.
