During several scenes in the movie, especially at the gypsy camp, the character of Kerim Bey looks slimmer than in other scenes. This is because the actor playing Kerim, Pedro Armendariz, was in the hospital dying of cancer, and the director Terence Young, filled in for him. Armendariz later killed himself rather than endure the agony.
