Small slip-up, but strange that a perfectionist like Kubrick wouldn't have caught this. When the tennis ball comes rolling along the floor to Danny, it stops at one particular point on the carpet design and in a later shot it's in a different position...

looks more like a slip up. i think if we were supposed to surmise that the hotel is moving the ball, the move would be more apparent.

Actually, this is just another Kubrickism for us to enjoy. It is supposed to show just how powerful the hotel really is. It's the hotel that is moving the ball; not bad editing.
