The Hunt for John Wilkes Booth - Wrong Dress
I know the History Channel may seem like it would have all the proper facts, and many doing the reference and background work, but in the episode entitled the Hunt For John Wilkes Booth, there is a serious error. The scene in the theater shows Lincoln with his wife and the couple who accompanied them, Major Rathbone and his fiance'. In the Television re-enactment it shows Rathbone's fiance' in a dark colored dress actually it was a white dress. There is a book entitled The White Dress, which tells of the night Lincoln was shot, and how her white dress was covered in blood, when her fiance' the Major was slashed with a knife by Booth. It was written for the American Heritage magazine how could the History Channel make an error like that, it's a very famous story. They should depict the scene as it was in 1865. Also they show the house where Lincoln was taken. A group of us were at this house in DC and we got together and no one could remember it being brick. In the TV version it's a brick house. It seems that the History Channel should be more accurate with its historical re-enactments. I was a little surprised that there are inaccuracies with this channel.
