Spock is outside the ship in his spacesuit. He enters V'Ger's inner sanctum, and reflections of what he sees are visible on his helmet face shield. These reflections don't always match what Spock has just passed, or what he is approaching. For example, Spock passes through some rings, and then the rings are shown ahead of him.
