In the beginning of the movie, Kirk's stunt double is climbing some real mountains, which are dull and drab colored. Then we see a close up of Kirk just before Spock arrives. Kirk is climbing a shiny plastic section of "mountain". The camera even pulls back too far and we can see the edge and a straight crease of the plastic mountain wall.
