When they began filming, they originally had a different Predator costume. After weeks of work, the producers decided it was too goofy looking and then designed a more sinister Predator. If you look at some of the wide shot scenes where the Predator is camouflaged, it sure looks like it is the goofy Predator that they covered up. All of the close ups look like the evil Predator.
