The scene where Denzel gets shot, watch when he goes to drive away the silver car is in the lane next to his. When he gets cut off he tries to reverse away but the silver car is magically in the lane he was in and slams into his car.
That van was part of the Russian gang that was there to (I won't say why -- it would be a spoiler). The woman driver (lighting the cigarette) was part of the gang too. The van PURPOSELY repositioned itself to behind him to PREVENT him from backing up (after the jeep cut him off in the front). It was all a set up.
