Christmas Story, A - Anachronism -- 1937 or Post-1939?
Several visual references to the Wizard of Oz, which was released in 1939. But, the magazine shown where Ralphie tries to slip in the Red Ryder ad was the December, 1937 issue of Look. (do a google search using "look magazine, december, 1937") and you will see the exact same cover of Shirley Temple and Santa Claus.
So, unless Ralphie's mom was reading 2-year old magazines at Christmas time, we have an anachronism!
Otherwise one of the very best Christmas movies ever...!

This is not a slip up. If you would have informed yourself , you would know that the movie is about his entire childhood around christmastime. this explains the soldiers uniform, the songs and so many more things. It is set in the area of about 38-45ish.
