At the begining of the film when the alien ships appear to be breaking through the atmosphere and clouds, there is interference on the TV and the ground starts to shake.

Later in the film when the alien ship has been shot down, it crashes into the ground and there isn't even a gust of wind.

Surely something that caused the ground to shake when coming though the clouds would do the same when it hit the earth?
