During the dogfight scene towards the end of the movie, the aircraft carrier commander briefs the pilots that those MiGs carry the new Exocet anti-ship missile. Yet the MiGs are only carrying air-to-air missiles.
He definitely said that the MiGs were carrying Exocets. I think he reason is that the F-5's that played the part of the MiG, has a very light armament capacity, and would not be able to carry an Exocet.
Well, the Exocet is a French designed missile and the MIGs do not carry those french weapons but rather Russian made weapons (Kh-31 etc...). So it is wrong anyway
Ever consider the possibility that the MiGs engaged in the dogfight were interceptors deployed to try & take out opposing aerial defense, while OTHER MiGs armed with the anti-ship weapons were separate?
