It is clarified on the official Redwall site that Killcony is a guy; it was just a mistake on the American publisher's part.

Woah woah woah, hold up! No female villians? What about the CAT, man? Tsarmina was, like, even more evil than Tinky Winky! And that's EVIL, man! It's like, BAD! And stuff! ... I'm done.

In the tenth anniversary book Kilconey is always male. Also I think his name means that he kills rabbits because coney means rabbit

Interesting fact, but Killconey hardly shows up at all. He gets killed somwhere in the middle of the book. Trivial.

That was a good call about Tsarmina, but does anyone really care that clams change sex and guppies are hermaphroditic?

Brian Jacques, the author, verified on the official Redwall site that Killconey was infact male. No female villians appear in the series until the Pearls of Lutra.

Maybe Killconey went into heat, couldn't find a mate, and died. Oh, wait, that's with female ferrets...
