From the very beginning, James Franco's character, Blaine, has a hair style not acustom to the time period. the movie is based in 1916...WWI. He has brown hair, with frosted tips. at the very beginning he also seen sporting a 90's / 2000s grungy spikey look.

I don't believe they had such hair care products during that time period to warrant such a doo.
