It may not be a mistake. They might be referring to a relative of Wedge Antilles. (Its just a guess) I did also think about that though. I too thought maybe it should be Organa.

I don't think so. Somebody must have goofed up on that on. Wedge's family was based on Correlia, not Alderan. Check your work!

It is neither meant to be bail organa or is it a relative of wedge, i just think george wanted to make him sound familiar or he ran out of names

It is highly unlikely that wedge is related to a "Bail Antilles". Wedge's parents died when Wedge was a teenager. They were killed by fleeing pirates.

In the original Star Wars when Luke stumbles upon the message in R2, C-3PO states "Our last master was Captain Antilles" It is possible that Bail Antilles, who is from Alderaan, was close to Leia, whose home planet is Alderaan. Captain Antilles could possibly be Bail Antilles son. Looks like something that will possibly be cleared up in Episode 2. Prediction: If Palpatine win the election for Chancellor, Bail Antilles will be one of the first to start the rebellion.

Oh, I can't WAIT to figure this mess out! Wedge Antilles is my favorite character. He saved Luke's butt in like every movie, and he's the best Pilot in all three (well, he survived all three starfighter battles, anyways, and no other character can say that for themselves) I have my own theories. Luke was doubtless put on Tatooine because Darth Vader would not go back and the Empire would not search for him there. I believe that Wedge was actually related to Captain Antilles (I think he was the guy who first suffered Darth Vader's mind crunch aboard the Blockade Runner) and was purposefully sent to Tatooine with the mission to become Luke's friend and--of course--protect him!

Legoman could be right. I don't think Lucas expected people to look to far into things, and just wanted some name that people recognised. That or he used some dramatic liscence (on his own work?... is that possible?) and changed something... maybe so he could do something for ep's 2 or 3.

Also, Bail Organa was the leader of Alderaan, not the senator. If i'm not mistaken, Bail Organa was Leia's father as well (Princess Leia ORGANA). And since he was her father, he must have been a whole generation lower than Bail Antilles whos son was about the age of a man who could sire children (if Mars Guo was correct). this would mean that the first Organa was ,if Alderaan was a democracy, a person who promised to rebell against the oppressive Emperor Palpatine ,if Alderaan was a monarchy, a leader of Alderaan, not a senator. If I'm not mistaken, Bail.........

Well, Wedge wasn't the ONLY pilot to survive, although he fought and survived in EVERY battle. Wes Jansen was Wedge's gunner in the Battle of Hoth, and he survived. He lived well past the span of the films and ultimately died in a later battle chronicled in the novels. Hobbie crashed in the Battle of Hoth, but he somehow survived (don't ask me how) and later fought in the Battle of Bakura. Maybe there's more?

I didn't quite understand that... O_O BTW I just read some earlier posts! Yes, it has been said that Wedge's parents were murdered when he was too young to remember. He was also told that his parents worked on a Spice Freighter... does this story sound at all familiar? They gave him the same story they gave luke. Also, it is confirmed that Captain Antilles knew Leia personally. I read a passage in one of these books in which Leia described the first hour or two before the Blockade Runner was boarded in Episode IV. She says that Captain Antilles were draining the computer database of all evidence that they had them in the first place. The only thing they didn't erase was R2-D2's memory banks, so that they could send him down to Tatooine. It was because this took so long that Captain Antilles failed to escape, and got crunched. >_<

What I MEANT was this: Wedge fought in every battle. Wedge survived every battle. Others fought. Some survived every battle THEY FOUGHT IN, but they didn't fight in EVERY SINGLE BATTLE. Take Hobbie. He didn't fight in EVERY BATTLE Wedge was in, but he survived all the battles HE was in. Therefore.... oh, never mind.

This question was covered in the Jedi Council section at starwars.com. A scene that was in the script, but was left out of the film, has Bail Organa seconding the vote of No Confidence in Chancellor Valorum. The vote carries, and the candidates to succeed Valorum are announced. Bail Antilles steps up when his name is called. Two different men. Antilles is the Star Wars galaxy's equivalent of the name Smith. Bail, Captain (R2-D2 and C-3PO's former master and the rebel officer being strangled by Darth Vader at the beginning of "A New Hope."), and Wedge Antilles are not related.

umm.. Wedge and Wes both survived all the battles.. there is no mention of Wes Dieing.. he lived through the same ones as Wedge... but they only REALLY referred to him in the X-wing novels.. they don't talk about him outside of those books... so you would have to tell me where it says that Wes Janson died... Like they said about the smith last name... Bail and Antilles.. is like John and Smith out there.. especially in Correlia... so I would just say that they are two different people.. but in the book Episode 1... the say Bail Antilles... in the book... so... I'm sure it is NOT a slip up... umm.. Bail could also have married into the organa family... and he is also from Alderaan... and since the family is powerful there.. he could have taken their last name instead of visa versa... royalty in the past would do that...

I recall one of those "Star Wars encylopedias" (characters, I think) referring to Wes Janssen being "killed when a TIE Fighter struck his ship." Am I right?

Pyro writes:
Why does everyone seem to think Princess Leia's last name is Organa? In ROTJ, we find out that Luke Skywalker and Leia are siblings, so Leia's last name is, or at some point must have been, Skywalker. which means that Anakin Skywalker, not Bail, was Leia's father. Therefore, Bail's last name must be either Skywalker (if he married into Leia's family and decided to use her last name) or Antilles (in any other case).

Pyro writes:
Well, since Leia wasn't born yet, and Shmi is clearly not married, Bail's last name must be Antilles, so this is not a slip-up.

As I already explained, Luke Skywalker and Leia are siblings (as we find out in ROTJ), and we know for a fact that Anakin Skywalker is Luke's father, so he must be Leia's father as well.

Hey, I just found a MAJOR contradiction in the Star Wars storyline. In ANH (I think), we know that Princess Leia's father is Bail Organa. But, in ROTJ, we find out that she and Luke are siblings, so her father must be Anakin Skywalker. What's up with that?

It is also possible that the great Lucas may have wanted everyone to wait and see how the plot line unfolds. If he does follow the books page by page, then why would anyone really want to stick around and see every movie?

Pyro, Leia Organa is her ADOPTIVE father's name. Following everything through, Leia and Luke were born to Shmi, fathered by Anakin. Anakin gets turned, Luke is hidden, Leia is also hidden, but separately from Luke, with Shmi for a while. Shmi dies. Leia is raised by Bail Organa as Leia Organa (to hide her true identity from the Emperor and Vader). What I don't know is exactly how Bail Organa got custody. Someone please step in and add what you know, but is it possible that to help hide Shmi and Leia, Shmi married Bail before she died?

OK, I got tired of all the contradictions going on here. First off, Luke and Leia are siblings, separated at birth to hide them from their father. Obi-Wan took Luke to Tatooine, while Bail Organa (NO relation to Bail Antilles) adopted Leia. We'll find out what happens to their mother in Episode 3. Second, Wedge Antilles, Bail Antilles and Captain Antilles ARE NOT related. Wedge is from Corellia, raised on Gus Treta where his parents were killed by pirates when he was 15. Bail and the Captain are both from Alderran, but one was a senator, while the other one was about 30 years younger and a rebel escorting Princess Leia. Antilles=Smith. Lastly, about Wes Janson. He was Wedge's gunner during the Battle of Hoth, and has survived many battles with him. More details in the X-Wing book series. And no, he has not died. He's semi-retired and teaching with Hobbie. These facts have been painstakingly researched from official sources.

Jabu writes:
Ok, here's the thing. As far as it's known Bail Organa and Bail Antilles are two different characters: Organa was Alderaan's ruler, and Antilles was an Alderaan's politician (for those who said it's the same person who "changed" his last name someway, it sounds hard, but not impossible). Wedge Antilles and Bail Antilles are two different characters as well: the firts one was born in Corellia, the last one in Alderaan. Besides, if Bail Antilles was a candidate to be Supreme Chancellor in TPM, he would be very, very, very old to be a pilot in the original trilogy. Now, it IS posible that Bail Antilles and captain Antilles are related (althought nothing had been said). Maybe captain Antilles is Bail's son, here's my hypothesis: when Ben gave Leia to Bail Organa and sent Luke to the Lars at Tatooine, he also gave C-3PO and R2-D2 to Bail Antilles to protect information that could be useful in the future, and he passed them to his son, captain Antilles... maybe this would be revealed in Ep III and we will see both, Bail Antilles and a young (almost a boy or teenager; he maybe was friends with Leia also) captain Antilles, hope it happens to finally clear all this up.
