In the song What You Own, right after Mark's solo Roger sings with him. Thhis is what he said word for word. The filmaker cannot see. and then Mark says the songwriter cannot hear. and then Roger says that he SEES Mimi everywher and Mark says that he HEARS Angel. But Marks the filmaker so he should see Angel. Roger is the song writer so he should hear Mimi. I think Jonathon Larson made a mistake when he wrote the song.

I don't think he made a mistake. I think he meant that Roger can't hear Mimi because he doesn't want to become involved with her since he has AIDS and would probably die soon; therefore he's not listening to her, but he still sees her everywhere because he loves her. The same goes for Mark. He can't see Angel because he is obviously dead, but he can still "hear" him because of his memories of Angel. I think it's just more symbolic, I guess, more than literal.

no. This is NOT a mistake. Jonathan Larson did NOT make a mistake. Roger is singing about Mark and his film-making, and Mark is singing about Roger and his song writing. Then Roger talks about Mimi- his inspiration for his song. Mark talks about Angel- the inspiration for his movie.

It's also a sign of their coming around, which is the whole point of that song and segue. They're finally starting to see themselves, which means hearing/seeing the things they had previously ignored. So in the beginning, the filmmaker cannot see and songwriter cannot hear, but as they open their eyes and ears, the filmmaker finally sees Angel and the songwriter finally hears Mimi, and things come full circle.
