Friends - Real Friends?

In the first episode, when Rachel comes into Central Perk in her wedding dress, she explains to Ross, Monica, Joey, Chandler, and Pheobe about how she decided not to marry Barry. I was wondering, if Monica and Ross were already such good friends with Rachel, why weren't they invited to her wedding? It was something that I noticed, because they always talk about how good of friends they have been since childhood, and how they all grew up on the same block.

Halef writes:: After telling the friends how she just left Barry, Rachel turns to Monica and says: "So anyway I just didn't know were to go and I know that you and I have kind of drifted apart but you are the only person I knew who lived here in the city.", Monica than adds: "Who wasn't invited to the wedding." and Rachel answers: "Oh I was kind of hoping that wouldn't be an issue." So I guess this solves that. They were best friends but drifted apart, which btw can also be seen in TOW the flashback, where Monica and Chandler are playing pool and Rachel and her friends are in the same bar by chance. It becomes clear that their friendship was not too deep at that point, in fact Monica bets Chandler that she'll never see Rachel again in her life.; 9 of 10 people found this comment helpful.
