Princess Bride - How Did They Know?
I hate to submit a slip-up for my favorite movie ever, but here goes!
Right after they get out of the fire swamp, Westley gets captured by Count Rugen, notices that he has six fingers and tells him that "someone was looking for you." Then, of course, he gets clobbered and thrown into the Pit of Despair with the albino. Meanwhile, Fezzik and Inigo reunite and Fezzik is trying to nurse Inigo's hangover with the hot and cold water. As he is feeding him stew the grandpa/narrator tells of the discovery of the six fingered man, at which time Inigo does a face plant into his bowl. But, with Westley in the Pit of Despair, there was no way they could have known! They had no contact with Westley from the moment he kicked their butts, and Fezzik was working for Yellin (the red-haired guy that was ordered to form the brute squad) and Yellin would not have occation to mention that his boss, the Count, has six fingers. Also, judging by the reaction the count gave Westley upon his observance, I'm sure he was not too friendly with people that threw around his physical abnormality as if it were common knowledge. I'm sure someone out there will come up with a plausible explanation, but it just doesn't make much sense to me :)

Perhaps Fezzik sees the count while he was in service to Yellin. Like in an unshown scene before he is reunited with Inigo. Its been awhile since I've seen the movie.

Since Fessik was on the Brute Squad, isn't it possible he met Count Rugen since he was working for him?

This is my favorite movie too i have watch it soooo many times never get sick of it ... comment for the how they new Wesley was in the "POD" wasn't it because Wesley was on the "machine and was crying out because Humperdinck put the machine up to 50 and the cry was heard by Inigo Montoya and he said "fezzik fezzik do you here, that is the sound of ultimate suffering my heart made that sound when Rugen killed my father and the man in black makes it now" and he asked his father to guide his sword,he held his sword out and it went to the tree and he ends up putting his head on the secret knot that opened the POD and then they went down into POD and found Wesley. That is how i think they found Wesley.

The only possible explanation is shown above in a previous comment, i.e. that Fezzik knows of this through his time on the brute squad. In the book Prince Humperdinck gives the squad and Yellin's other men a pep talk about 'thinking of this as being an affair of the heart' and such. As usual Count Rugan was with Humperdinck, and obviously his right hand would have been in view of the men. This is either an unlikely but possible explanation to how Fezzik knew the Count had six fingers, or William Goldman merely made a mistake in the continuity of his writing :)
