Scream - Wacky Garage Scene
When Tatum goes out to the garage for beers, she pushes the garage door button, the light goes on, and the door goes UP. As the scene progresses, you never hear the door closing, yet when the cat knocks over the shovel, it runs thru the animal door of the CLOSED garage door. Also, after she knocks the villan down, she appears to push the garage door button again (although not actually shown) yet the garage door is still down. Finally, on a couple of shots of the knife, you can see it covered with blood, yet when the villan stands up to raise the garage door, there is no blood on the knife. Seems the blood comes and goes as it feels.

This scene needs to be watched with a letterboxed version. Tatum is fumbling for the lightswitch and hits the garage door opener. It starts to open. The light on the door opener goes on and she hits the garage door opener again. At the very edge of the letterboxed screen the door is shown to stop and go back down. In the pan and scan version you can see her hit the button a second time before touching the wall on the other side of the door trying to find the light switch. She gets the beer, the cat runs through the door, goes back to the door, the door is locked she re-opens the garage door. When she gets to the door, it closes. She turns around, and the killer is at the button. She walks up to him blah, blah, when she runs back to hit the button to reopen the door, she misses it, and the killer is right there before she can hit it again. The door never mysteriously closes, it's just one of the many things lost in pan and scan versions of movies.

unfortunately, i don't have letterbox edition, but i did manage to watch the scene a few more times, and although you never quite see tatum push the button again, you do hear the garage door stop and reverse direction. as for the blood on the knife, the killer isn't shown wiping it off in the normal vhs edition......so maybe it is in widescreen. can't believe i missed the sounds the first dozen times i watched it. =(

From what I could tell, when she get in the garage she pushes the button to turn on the light on the unit. She then hits the button right away to close the garage, all the while she has not left the doorway yet. She just needed a light source.

If you watch the wide-screen version, you will see in the far right portion of the screen that the garage door goes up a little and then goes back down completely. If you are watching the modified version you will not see this, but if you listen carefully you can actually hear it. If you get a chance, watch the wide-screen version and see for yourself.

Didn't the killer shut the garage door? Also, he wipes off his knife when it gets bloody.
