In the episode, Macgyver has a signal receiver so he can track Pete. After Macgyver switches the signaler that Pete had to get another car, the slip-up occurs. Macgyver loses track of the car for a bit, but then picks up a signal that is getting stronger. It shows the arrow pointing down. That would mean the car is behind him. But the car comes in front of him. The receiver is supposed to show what the direction the car is coming from, not the direction it's heading.
