This happens in the episode that Van is celebrating his new football contract. Reba and Cheyenne decide to have a surprise party for Van because he thinks his family isn't proud of him. When Van walks in the door and everyone yells surprise Reba sits Van down on a stool. Notice there is no hat on Van's head. When the camera changes to a close up of him there is a big party hat suddenly on his head.
