Watch the movie or skip to the scene just before the prisoner is lowered into the firepit. when indy and his friends are looking on from above you see that the skull figure has its eyes and nose lit up but after a closer look the stones havent been placed in it and it is no longer lit. later the stones are added and is lit up.
