yea... i noticed that too i thought it was wierd but they might have sent the horses away like aragorn did when he sent Bill the pony away before they entered the gates of moria. Or.. maybe the horses just ran away at the sight of 10,000 creepy looking orcs and cave trolls marching towards them...

This is a good slip-up. I saw ROTK in the theaters, and I could of sworn that everyone, not just the main characters, rode to the black gates on horses, and then all of them dissapeared. But on the DVD, only the main characters are riding horses. Am I just going crazy, or was I seeing things right? Can someone help me?

This is for lotr_lovr. In the theatrical version, atleast when I saw it opening day (twice... i know I am insane) only the main characters rode up to the gates. I don't remeber everyone riding up.

In midevial wars, the battle leader would always dismount to show his troops he wasn't scared, and wasn't about to gallop away as soon as the war started.

I have also noticed this, but if you look in the movie, it cuts away from Aragorn and co. to go to Frodo and Sam, This would have been plenty of time to send the horses off, Gandalf especially would have wanted to because Shadowfax is the lord of all horses
