I swear I saw and heard the clip myself way back when. Oh, I see... reading It says that although he said it, the audience assumed he was making funny (jokes). So, perhaps at least once he did not mean to make this quote a newsbyte himself. Yet, he did not stand alone, remember now, he had a number of advisors telling him what to say when. Maybe reporters just did not share same sense of humor, we are all different. My vote?: he said it. A slip-up?: I abstain.

Quayle did not say this. Neither did Gore. Sorry, but this "quote" is 100% false. We don't need to make up new material; Quayle already said enough idiotic things on his own!
