In the episode of Wild Wild West in which Jim and Artemus travel to Salt Lake City and Jim ends up diving into the reservoir to enter the tunnel in the secret lab, you can see that Jim couldn't do this dive by himself. In one scene (I believe it is during his first dive down) you can see an obscured view of a diver in a wetsuit and oxygen tank.
