In the episode "White Lie" where a woman smuggles drugs while her husband directs anti-drug efforts in Columbia, the husband is called a major in the Army. But, the bars on his lapel show that he is a Lieutenant Colonel.
If there were BARS on the uniform, this would be a Captain. A Lt. Colonel and a major's rank look exactly the same, save colour. Major is gold, the light bird is silver (supposed to platinum, I think, but you know govt . . . )
