Nitro was a total dimwit in the movie, so I think that was part of the joke.

This is not a slip-up If you look at the character, he is trying a new nickname ... Mike ... He is also a little "tickle" wired, painted on pirates beard, chickens tied to his shoulders, acting as an electric wire to make the radio work. OK so I've seen this one too many times! I still think it was intentional to show his character.

Ever hear of a TV show called "The Wackyest Ship in the Army"? That was also deliberate.

He also refers to him as "General Gram-ham-ham-mmm" then shrugs his shoulders.
