After dead-inding the Lava they call in the helicopters which all come flying in and drop their loads of water onto the lava forming a solid crust. Anne Heche's character says that this worked in Norway. Sorta correct, except that they pumped and pumped millions of gallons of Sea Water onto the lava over a couple of days to stop its progress. Also there is the fact that when ash is in the air which it is, then as in real life if it gets sucked into the helicopters intake the it should have engine problems. What we should have seen in this part of the film was a mid-air catastrophe, not an on ground victory.
