Moulin Rouge - Disappearing Clothes
After Satine collapses in her opening scene in the Moulin Rouge and recovers, she thinks that she is going to see The Duke in the elephant. Harold had told her to dress like a "smoldering temptress" and you see her getting dressed in a beautiful red gown. But when they go to the next scene in the elephant Satine is in a black negligee. She ends up wearing the red dress later in the movie, but not in right scene.

You may call me obsessed, but I try and not think of it that way, I try and think of me being more of an admirer. Anyway lets get straight to the point, I have seen Moulin Rouge now over 20 times (10 times at the cinemas and lots more on DVD) Yes Harold Zidler suggested Satine dress as a smoldering temptress, and she did. As you might not have noticed, you see Satine and the start of the scene in the elephan behind a changing screen, changing out of her red dress into something more 'comfortable' or appropriate. So, Smoldering temptress she was and still stay after she has even taken her Red Dress off. I Hope that has helped you.

The dress is indeed in Satine's elephant. Obviously, she took it off and changed into something that was truly tempting and smoldering.

When you first see Satine in the room with the "duke" (a.k.a. Christian), you see her step out from behind a screen, which her red dress is hanging over, implying that she made her grand entrance in the stunning red dress and then put on the other outfit for her activities with the duke.

In the movie she DOES change her dress. It is a very quick clip but you can clearly see her behind a changing screen and the red dress coming off.

I'm not sure but I think that the red dress is hanging up when we see Satine and Christian in her Boudouire (or however you spell it!)

Well, I've seen the movie over 100 times now (seriously), and I never really understood why she took off the dress. Thank you for clarifying.
