Flowers for Algernon - Two Names?
On some of the front covers of copies of Flowers For Algernon, there is a picture of a boy and a girl putting flowers in a pond. Above it, it says Charly. (the "r" is backwards.) In the book though, Charlie spells his name, "c-h-a-r-l-i-e."
He also, knows how to spell it himself. Since the "r" is backwards on the cover, I assume it was supposed to be him who wrote it. That would mean that he doesn't know how to spell his name in the book, but he does know how!?!?

"Charly" was the name of the movie based on the book which is where the cover photo is from.

The author isn't actually responsible for the cover most of the times. Usually the publishers get some artist to do the covers for them unless the author wants it done by himself or something like that. In which case, the cover has nothing to do with the book and the slip up isn't really one after all.

Actually, When charly wrote "Charlie" as his name, it was after they made him smart with the operation. When he wrote his name as "Charly" he hadn't had the operation done and he was kind of slow.

On the cover it shows a little boy.....and when Charlie was a little boy he may not have know how to spell his name correctly. But when he spells it c-h-a-r-l-i-e in the book he is a grown man.

Charly is the name of the movie based on the book, and the cover picture is from the movie on most of the editions of the book.
