Mario Bros. - No Brakes
In the movie where the Mario brothers were arrested the cop car had to use some kind of wire system to stop the car. But when the brothers escape from the police station the steal a cop car and get into a police chase. When the two cops come up on both sides of the brothers Mario puts on the brakes. But when there in the tunnel they have no brakes.

Perhaps Mario quickly put the car in reverse, then slammed the accelerator to make the wheels spin in the opposite direction, causing more friction, and letting the car slow very suddenly.

gunganslayer is right, you show him hit the gas, and it shows the wheels suddenly going in reverse, so that he goes backwards and they dont get shot.
