Wild Wild West - History Error
Near the end of the film, the president hands Jim and Artie badges, saying he's creating the Secret Service, a group "whose sole purpose is to protect the president." The Service was actually created by Abraham Lincoln, originally charged with tracking and capturing counterfeiters (which is why, to this day, the Secret Service is a division of the Treasury Department). The Secret Service did not start their presidential-protection job until the early 1900's.

This movie was not, in any way, shape, or form based on accurate history. There were no Black Army officers, let alone "top operatives" with direct connections to the President. There were no rocket-powered bicycles, giant mechanical spiders, super electromagnets, fully functioning tanks, etc. The movie is obviously not meant to be historically accurate. As such, I do not believe historical inaccuracies are slip ups.
