That scene where that bloke is checking out the egg chamber, a part where the camera pans around back and fourth to check out a bunch of eggs, you can see the outline of a little black box just sticking out at the bottom behind one of the eggs. It might be near the end of the panning camera bit. I can only guess this was an electrical motor or battery to make the egg open.
