Airplane - Quick Cigarette
During the scene where Rex Kramer (Robert Stack) first talks to Ted Striker (Robert Hays) on the air waves, you see McCroskey (Lloyd Bridges) take a cigarette out of the pack. The view then cuts to the cockpit interior, and Striker talks very briefly. When the view cuts back to the airport, the cigarette has already been half smoked. In about 20 seconds...

And the jet airplain makes a propeller sound. This movie is full on on purpose inconsistencies. It probably was done on purpose.

Well, it basically points out (very much) that he was very stressed out and he smokes the whole thing very quickly. Kind of like if you drink a whole beer in a few seconds.

I always thought that was an intentional thing. Like so many other "substance abuse" type gags in the flick...though I could be wrong.

Well, seeing as the movie is Airplane, full of stupid things that make NO sense whatsoever, it's pretty obvious that this is put there on purpose...sorry.
