In the scene before they steal the bus they have a really big shootout in the basement of the museum which is full of wooden crates. Look carfully and you can see the bullets hit the wood and make sparks!
Some of the stuff that's in the basement are big rocks with gold on them, which could have been making the sparks or the bullets might have been hitting those crates that had formaldehyde in them.
