Mummy Returns, The - That Snake Ain't Dangerous!
In the beginning of the movie, When you first see Evee, She finds a snake slithering around her feet. She kicks it away as Rick walks in. He dodges it and says, "Hey, those are poisonous you know." Evee than says, " only if they bite you." That kind of snake is actually harmless. It looks like the very dangerous coral snake, but it's a king snake. The red colored bands on the snake touched the black bands. If it were the poisonous kind, the red bands would touch the yellow bands.

Well, let's just be logical for one second, they're not really gonna have somebody kick a poisonous snake at somebody else just for a movie.

This is true, but is it really a slip-up, after all why use an extremely dangerous poisonous snake (meaning a doctor has to be employed for that shot, anti-venom found just in case etc.) when there is a harmless snake that looks virtually identical. On the other hand they most likely just overlooked it.

You were good to notice that. I suppose they did it because no actor would want to go NEAR a coral snake, movie or not. It's still amusing.

Okay, lets look at it in a different way. As far as I know, coral snakes only live around marshes and rivers in NORTH AMERICA. They are in AFRICA. Unless I'm wrong, they used the wrong color of snake altogether.

Also- even if coral snakes are native to Africa, now they can de-venom snakes.

Even still, they could of either used a fake snake, digitally removed the stripes, or milked the snake first.....but then again....bah its only a couple of stripes

I've seen this movie over 10 times over and over again, and I rewatched that part with the snake, and the red bands weren't touching the black at all.

Red touches black: Venom Lack, MILK SNAKE. Red touches yellow: Kill a fellow, CORAL SNAKE. This is not a slip up, but I noticed it right away also! With all the computer animation/graphics, why couldn't the at least make it LOOK like a coral snake? This makes me mad!

Safety precautions is the most likely explanation.

How's this for thought?: Maybe Rick O'Connell(Brendan Fraser) just thought it was poisonous when it really wasn't, it's not like he's supposed to be an expert on snakes...Then it wouldn't be a slip-up would it?...Fully explainable...

If you watch any movie with a red, black, and yellow snake, they always use a milk snake instead of a coral. It's not a slip up, it's a common practice. Why go back and change it? Most people wouldn't care.

Yeah but anyone with any sense is scared of snakes anyway, so poisonous or not, it's still fracking scary. I know I'd be out of that temple before you can say 'elbereth' if someone kicked any kind of snake at me.

Dont think most people would realise that it is not a poisionous snake,I did not have a clue.A snake is a snake to me.

Speaking of snakes... the "poisonous" asp that Meela (reincarnated Anck-su-namun) threw at Rick when he barged in them holding a knife to Jonathan's throat was rubber. It's definitely not a slip-up... just a really funny blooper. Watch the out-take reel on the second DVD, it's hilarious. (At some point Oded Fehr falls off the back of a horse)

If you have a snake being kicked at you your not gonna think about it being poisonous or not. the coral and king snake look alot alike. the king snake copies the coral snakes coloring to fool the animals that would eat it. as thesnake is kicked at rick, he might thing its poisonous.
