Soul Music (Terry Pratchett) - 2+2 = 2x2
On page 237 of the paperback edition, The Arch-chancellor is looking at the ant 'computer' later called Hex. He puts in a card with 2X2 on it and gets the answer 4. He then talks to Ponder and says that he knew that 2+2 is four, but the machine worked out 2X2, (Same answer but different question).

Over the course of the Terry Pratchett books you definatly get the understanding that the arch chancellor is not quite all there, an easy mistake for such a person to make.
