The Mauser 98 is a bolt-action rifle.

The Model C-96 Mauser Pistol fires the 7.63 cartridge. Most Model C-96s fire semi automatic, but a few had a selector switch, and even fewer had been converted to fire the 9mm Parabellum cartridge.

It's highly doubtful that the people attacking here would have had a 9mm full auto Mauser.
